Microsoft has given developers access to both its Windows 8 and Windows Phone app stores for the same price as it moves to align – and possibly merge -the two stores.
Microsoft has been reportedly considering a merged store for Windows 8 and Windows Phone apps and the announcement means it will be easier – and cheaper – for developers to create apps for both platforms.
The changes mean developers registered with one store will we able to submit apps for the other from the same account, and annual costs will be reduced.
“Over the last month, we’ve brought the Windows Store and the Windows Phone Store together into a single marketing and operations team to deliver a better experience for developers, end users and partners,” said Microsoft’s Todd Brix on the Windows App Builder Blog.
“Windows Store developers are now also Windows Phone developers, and Windows Phone developers are also Windows Store developers.”
Previously, individual Windows Store developers had to pay $49 per year and Windows Phone accounts cost $19 per year. Now, app builders will get access to both for $19.
Development companies will pay $99 for access to both stores, whereas under the old system they needed to pay the same amount for each store.
