Chromecast owners can now access the BBC Sport app from their media streaming dongle.

Until now, the broadcaster only supported the iPlayer app on Chromecast, a Wi-Fi enabled HDMI dongle that plugs straight into users’ TVs, letting them stream audio and video content from the internet or local network.
However, as of today, the BBC Sport app on both iOS and Android is now supported, allowing users to access the app via their TV or, thanks to the Chromecast’s new “cast” mirroring capability, use it on both their mobile devices and TV at the same time.
The BBC’s decision to offer support for its Sport app on Chromecast comes just in time for the start of the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which kick off tomorrow with the opening ceremony at 10pm.
BBC Sport isn’t the only sports app available for the Chromecast, though. The BT Sport app for both iOS and Android has supported Chromecast for some time now.
In order to use the BBC Sport app with the Chromecast, users will need to update to the latest version of the service, which is available immediately through the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
