Windows 7 SP1 beta set for July

Microsoft will release the public beta for the first Windows 7 Service Pack by the end of July.

Making the announcement at TechEd this week, Microsoft said it will make the beta for the Windows Server 2008 SP1 available at the end of July, too.

Those looking for new features for Windows 7 will be disappointed, however. “For Windows 7, SP1 will simply be the combination of updates already available through Windows Update and additional hotfixes based on feedback by our customers and partners,” said Gavriella Schuster, Microsoft’s general manager of Windows Commercial Product Management, in a post of the Windows Team blog.

“In other words, customers can feel confident about deploying Windows 7 now,” she said, admitting that some customers prefer to wait until the first service pack hits to install a new operating system.

She claimed Microsoft has already sold 100 million licences for Windows 7.
