The ultra-portable ThinkPad X41 now comes with a built-in fingerprint reader for authentication and access to passwords and files. The Centrino system also includes power management features to let users tailor their own battery-use schemes.

Running on Intel Pentium M processors, up to 2.13GHz, with a 533MHz front side bus and the Intel 915GM chipset, there is a 12.1in XGA TFT display and support for a,b and g flavours of 802.11 wireless networking. The machine weighs 1.2Kg.

The X41 comes installed with the full suite of IBM’s ThinkVantage Technologies, for maintaining and restoring systems. These includes the ‘air-bag’ protection system for shutting down the hard-drive when the notebook is dropped.

Available from 12 April, pricing starts from £1,200.
