Abit launches AL8 Series

Abit has launched its AL8 Series of motherboards, which is based on the Intel 945P chipset and provides support for support for Pentium 4 (LGA 775) processors, dual DDR2 memory, 7.1 channel HD audio, and PCI Express graphics.

Shipping with the Guru interface software to tweak and overclock settings, the latest version works with the Guru Clock peripheral, which allows you to overclock the system while playing games or running other applications in full screen mode. The Guru Clock’s LCD display covers a range of system information, including fan speeds, temperatures and voltages. The software is also Skype friendly.

With a 305 x 245mm ATX form factor, details of the AL8 hardware are as follows. In terms of memory, there are four 240-pin DIMM sockets, support for dual channel DDR2 667/533 Un-buffered Non-ECC memory and a maximum memory capacity of 4GB.

For internal connectors, there are 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, 3 x PCI Express x1 slots, 2 x PCI slots, 1 x Floppy port, 6 x SATA connectors, 1 x Ultra DMA 100/66/33 Connector, 2 x USB 2.0 headers, 1 x IEEE 1394 headers, 1 x FP-Audio header, and 1 x CD-IN.

For back-panel I/O there is 1 x Serial Port, 1 x Parallel Port, 1 x S/PDIF In/Out(AL8 only), 1 x PS/2 Keyboard, 1 x PS/2 Mouse, an audio connector (Line-out, Line-in, MIC-in, Center/Subwoofer, Rear Surround, Side Surround), 2 x USB + 1 x IEEE1394a Connector, and 2 x USB + 1 x RJ-45 LAN Connector.

Abit says that the product is already shipping to the channel, and RRP is expected to be around £108 including VAT.
