Online discount for Firefox users
Firefox users are being offered a 5% discount at an online IT retailer, in an attempt to lure people away from the “built-in browser that comes with Windows”.
Tekfix, an Australian company, is offering the promotion independently, and denies being funded by the Mozilla Foundation in any way.
“In my experience Mozilla has provided more security and an overall better experience when browsing the internet. Tekfix wants to reward people who take the next step and try the browser for themselves,” says Tony Schirmer, marketing manager for Tekfix.
“Tekfix just thought it should give something back to the Firefox community because it’s had a fair plug with them,” says Schirmer, before confirming that the offer is permanent, but that the company will be monitoring it closely.
The move may help convert some users, but it will be a drop in the ocean compared to the 125 million users that Mozilla already claims to have.
