Nokia beefs up security for new Series 60 smartphone software
Nokia has announced the 3rd Edition of its Series 60 smartphone software. The new version promises improved multimedia functions and better security.
In keeping with the trend towards adding ever more functions for the consumer, the 3rd Edition offers a new music player, USB mass memory storage and high-quality multimedia rendering.
Nokia says the new music player will offer simple music downloading. It has built in OMA Digital Rights Management 2.0. The company says that smartphones based on the new edition can work as a normal USB memory stick allowing music to be swapped between PC and mobile.
The new version is also said to offer better support for different hardware including single- and dual-chip architectures.
While Microsoft is likely to get most of the attention for its Peabody phone, Nokia is confident that the new version of its Series 60 software based on Symbian v9.0 will continue to hold onto the lion’s share of the mass market. Nokia alone says it has shipped some 20 million Series 60 based devices.
