Skype phone details arriving October
Skype will officially announce its partnership with 3 to sell its first mobile phone in October, reports are claiming.
Skype’s software already works on some phones sold by 3, however, the new phone will be the first that Skype is having manufactured itself, and will be easier to use than existing mobile phone models that support Skype, the reports claim.
It goes on to say that Skype plans to introduce the phone in the countries where 3 operates, though it fails to give a timeframe or say where the phone will be rolled out first.
Skype spokesman Chaim Haas has already confirmed that 3 and Skype “are working together on a new product to make Skype completely mobile,” but declined to give full details, though a further announcement is due in the last week of October, says the report.
Representatives for 3 UK could not be reached for comment.
The deal could come as a timely boost for Skype, after EBay admitted it could potentially cut as much as $1.2 billion off the $4.3 billion potential price it agreed to pay two years ago.
