Dubbed the Eee PC 900, the new model has made space for the 9in screen by removing the speakers which previously sat either side of it. The speakers now sit underneath the machine, though Asus claims the move shouldn’t affect sound quality.

Asus makes a similar claim about the battery life, which it says will last the same three hours as its 7in counterpart. The resolution will however be receiving a boost, increasing to 1,024 x 600 from the 800 x 480 found in the original.

Asus also surprised us by admitting that the model on display contained 12GB of storage, though a spokesperson couldn’t confirm whether the Eee PC 900 will ship with more than the stated 4GB at launch.

The 9in Eee PC will cost around 400 Euros (£300), and be rolled out in the summer.

Further details are to be given at a press conference this afternoon.
