Nokia shares were up sharply this morning after a UK newspaper suggested that the phone maker is being eyed by Cisco.
Sunday Business claimed that the network and communications hardware giant is on the lookout for a wireless infrastructure company, with the Finnish outfit identified as the most likely target.
The paper said that Cisco, faced with the increasing convergence of fixed line and wireless services, needs technology to create intelligent wireless applications, technology that Nokia could provide.
Neither company would comment, though they are already working together on technology for connecting Nokia’s mobile phones to Cisco’s wired, IP-based telephone systems.
