Firefox 1.5 reaches release candidate 1

The first release candidate version of Firefox 1.5 is now available from the Mozilla Organisation.

The release adds nothing bar bug fixes to previous beta releases. The key features of Firefox 1.5 are a new software update feature for automatic installation of updates, security fixes and extensions, a new rendering engine that promises faster navigation and accessibility and support for standards including CSS 2 and 3, SVG and JavaScript 1.6.

There are also security and privacy improvements and better Mac compatibility. For full details see the release notes.

Firefox 1.5rc1 can be downloaded from www.mozilla.org/projects/firefox. An rc1 version of Thunderbird is expected in the next day or so.
