Yahoo! audio search arrives in UK

Yahoo!’s audio search has officially arrived in the UK, allowing users to search through some 38 million audio files online.

As well as indexing what’s available from commercial online music services, such as iTunes, Napster and Wippit, Yahoo! audio searches will also look up podcasts, interviews and other spoken word files.

In addition, audio searches will also return other information such as music videos, album art and reviews.

Those that are already subscribed to a music service can select it as their preferred source and supply results that will link straight through to that provider.

The Yahoo! audio index can also be populated with content submitted using Media RSS, allowing independent and home-grown acts to get in on Yahoo!’s index.

Salim Mitha, Director of Yahoo! Search UK said: ‘With Yahoo! Audio Search, users have a starting-point for finding all audio-related content available on the Web, making it easy for users to find music available online and compare prices between services. The new Audio Search facility complements music services by providing consumers with access to an extensive array of other audio-related content such as podcasts, spoken word, music videos and artist websites.’
