McAfee’s Falcon flies
Security firm McAfee has unveiled a beta version of its ‘Falcon’ integrated consumer security service platform.
The software suite that comprises anti-virus, anti-spyware, and what McAfee is calling ‘proactive threat watch’ technologies.
Each of the security applications have been configured to provide a single screen called the McAfee SecurityCenter that allows customers to manage their McAfee security products.
The SecurityCenter will also warn of potentially dangerous web sites with a traffic light style red, amber or green alerts.
The new product is McAfee’s answer to Microsoft’s OneCare Live security software launched earlier this month. Rival Symantec is also preparing its response codenamed Genesis that is also due later this year.
There are two products in the line. The McAfee Total Protection includes VirusScan Plus, as well as spam, phishing, identity, and wireless network protection as well as McAfee Data Backup, with offline and online file backup and restore.
McAfee VirusScan Plus includes anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall protection. It is also possible to view the security status, scan for viruses and spyware, and ensure products are up-to-date via the SecurityCenter.
