Microsoft updates Office Comms for mobiles
During his keynote at 3GSM World Congress 2006, Steve Ballmer – the CEO of Microsoft – announced Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile for Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005.
Hidden beneath the mammoth moniker is client software for real-time communications services. It is, of course, integrated with Windows, attempting to unify the company’s Office offerings across both mobile devices and desktop computers. Aimed at ‘information workers’, it enables security-enhanced instant messaging, presence awareness and integrated Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony.
In terms of its interface, it is based on the Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 desktop client.
More information can be found at www.microsoft.com/rtc. The software is expected to be available for download (for Live Communication Server users) within 60 days.
