Oki MC760dnfax review

Oki’s MC700 series of colour all-in-ones aim to offer enterprise printing at a price SMBs can afford. They score highly on features – the MC760dnfax offers print, scan, copy and fax functions, and has 2GB of RAM, Gigabit Ethernet, a duplexer, an integral stapler and a 160GB internal hard disk.

It’s well built, too, and the 23cm colour LCD touchscreen can be angled up or down to suit. The 530-sheet lower tray can be augmented easily with three more 530-sheet trays or a 2,000-sheet bulk feeder.

Consumables are accessed by flipping the scanner assembly to the right and lifting the output tray underneath. However, printing costs are a little high: a colour page costs 8.4p, while a mono page works out at 1.6p.

The bundled software is packed with utilities, including an address-book viewer, which provides direct access to the printer for managing lists of public and private fax numbers and email addresses.

There’s also a File Downloader utility, which allows users to access scans made using the Oki’s e-Filing feature. This allows you to scan documents directly to “boxes” on the internal hard disk.

The MC760dnfax is also a great choice if you want maximum control over access to all print, scan and copy functions. From Oki’s web interface, users and groups can be created, and it’s also possible to restrict them from accessing various features.

Colour and mono print speeds using the General driver setting are on the money. Duplexing is nippy, with a 28-page Word document delivering at 20ppm, while the scanner’s ADF copied a ten-page colour brochure in 31 seconds. Print quality is easily good enough for producing business reports and brochures, with minimal banding and high levels of detail.

The MC760dnfax packs in heaps of features, and matches these with good speeds and a solid build. Output quality is excellent, and the fact Oki won the last PC Pro Laser Printer Excellence Award adds to this all-in-one’s appeal.
