Amazingly, the cramped confines don’t cause any cooling issues. The two fans on the watercooling unit kept the processor down to a peak temperature of 64˚C and, while the graphics card was hotter, we’re not concerned about its top temperature of 83˚C.
This pint-sized desktop PC will handle any game on the market – unless, that is, you’re planning to play on multiple screens. If multimonitor gaming is top of your shopping list, you’d be wise to look at a full-size system that can accommodate two graphics cards. And one thing we’d note with regards to the KFA2 card is its odd selection of display outputs: the single DisplayPort socket is joined by three mini-HDMI outputs.
Storage comes from a Mach Xtreme MX-DS Turbo 240GB SSD and 1TB Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.D hard disk. The latter has proven quality – it was the best hard disk in our recent storage Labs – but we’ve never seen the SSD before. In the AS SSD benchmark the SSD read and wrote large files at 505MB/sec and 299MB/sec – a fine comparison to our favourite SSD, the Corsair Performance Series Pro, which scored 471MB/s and 413MB/s in the same tests.
The only minor issue is noise. When idling the Prodigy is quiet, but gaming sees the three fans on the graphics card spin up to a reasonably loud whirr. It isn’t a disaster, though: we’ve certainly heard worse, and speakers or headphones will drown out the noise.
At £1,471 inc VAT, it isn’t cheap, and there’s certainly a premium to be paid for the Titan’s small stature, but it’s quicker than the Wired2Fire system – as well as virtually every other base unit we’ve seen – and offers stellar quality throughout.
Those keen on upgrading their system and adding new components will find the BitFenix case a little restrictive, but the judiciously chosen specification means there’s enough power here to keep most users sated for several years – and it’s portable, well built and reasonably priced, too. If a full tower just won’t do, the Overclockers Titan Prodigy Arctic is an excellent alternative.
