PC Specialist Vanquish Enforcer review

Price when reviewed

The Vanquish Enforcer comes with no external peripherals – not even a keyboard and mouse – but there’s plenty of good stuff inside, including 16GB of memory, a 2TB data disk and a Blu-ray reader. The system drive is a Kingston HyperX 3K SSD with 223GB of formatted space: its sequential read and write results of 482MB/sec and 224MB/sec beat every other single drive we’ve tested, though it can’t outpace the dual-SSD RAID array in the CyberPower.

The interior is sensibly laid out, with side-facing 3.5in drive bays and tool-free 5.25in bays, and PC Specialist has taken care to keep cables tied down and out of the way. The chunky Corsair Hydro H60 CPU cooler doesn’t impede access to the motherboard, though the CPU’s peak temperature during our tests, 93°C, was a little too close to its nominal thermal peak of 100°C for our liking.

PC Specialist Vanquish Enforcer

Upgrade room includes a single PCI Express x16 slot running at x8 speed, one PCI Express x1 slot and three PCI sockets. The Asus Z87-K motherboard also offers three free SATA 6Gbit/sec ports. The port selection around the back isn’t particularly generous, though; the rear has only two USB 3 ports and three audio jacks, and there’s no sign of eSATA, S/PDIF or CMOS reset buttons.

It all comes housed in Cooler Master’s CM Storm Enforcer case, which is a good-looking chassis with a meshed, slatted front, a large fan and tasteful red LEDs. The metal side panels and internals feel sturdy, and four hard disk bays can be removed to improve airflow. The only note of cheapness is the plastic door, which wobbles on its hinges when open.

The PC Specialist Vanquish Enforcer is the most powerful desktop PC we’ve seen, but £1,499 is a lot to spend on a bare base unit – the CyberPower is £50 cheaper and includes an excellent 23in monitor. If you demand the ultimate in performance, and unparalleled multiscreen gaming capabilities, the Enforcer certainly delivers, but our A-List champion remains a better all-round deal.
