Super Talent 8GB IDE Flash Drive review

Just six months ago, the suggestion of using a solid-state hard disk as a primary volume would have been met with scoffs of derision. Yet here it is. The Super Talent has no moving parts, so should prove ideal for rugged notebooks. And, with near-instant access to the data stored, it should give a major speed boost. This is, however, only theoretical and our HD Tach tests revealed poor performance. A sustained transfer rate of 13.4MB/sec pales compared with most 2.5in disks, and write speeds were similarly low at 14MB/sec. Also, there isn’t much capacity for the money.
