Sony is no stranger to the peripherals market, but the VN-CX1 is its first VoIP product. Primarily, it’s an 800dpi optical mouse, but it flips open to reveal a clamshell-style handset. It doesn’t come with any software, but it works perfectly with Skype, with the scroll wheel doubling as a volume control. Unfortunately, the VN-CX1 is only a qualified success as either a mouse or a VoIP handset. It isn’t particularly ergonomic in either of its roles, and using it for an extended period quickly becomes tiring. There’s also the fact that unless you have a supplementary trackpad you won’t be able to use the mouse at the same time as making a VoIP call. The price of £47 is high, despite the VN-CX1’s twin features.
