Every smartphone has its fair share of audio glitches and the Galaxy J2 is no exception. Assuming you’ve already checked to see if the phone is set on maximum volume, here are some fixes you can try for the most common audio glitches experienced by Galaxy J2 users.

Resetting the J2
With the Galaxy J2, you can simply remove the battery. While newer phones may require you to perform a soft reset to fix various audio issues or connectivity issues, on the J2 you simply have to remove the battery and wait for a few minutes before putting it back in to reset the phone.
- Turn off the phone
- Remove the back cover
- Take out the battery
- Wait for a few minutes
- Put the battery back
- Slide the cover back
- Open the phone
Now you can go to the volume menu and test the sound for ringtones, notifications, and system sounds. If it didn’t work, try some of the other methods.
Cleaning the Speakers
Getting the speakers so clogged with dust and debris that there’s virtually no sound coming out of them, shouldn’t really happen. However, just in case, you may want to use a can of compressed air to clean the speakers, or you can use cotton swabs.
At the very least, cleaning the speakers should improve the audio quality.
Reinstalling Apps
Does the sound only fail when you’re using specific apps? If that’s the case, then you should consider reinstalling said apps or updating them.
- Tap on the Apps icon
- Swipe up to list more options
- Tap on the Settings icon
- Tap on the Applications icon
- Select Application manager
- Locate and select the app you want to remove
- Tap UNINSTALL and OK
Now simply use the Google Play store to download and install the app again.
Make Sure the Phone is Not Set on Vibrate
Although it’s not possible to accidentally set J2 on vibrate, you may have switched audio profiles at some point and forgot about it.
- Swipe the top menu downwards twice
- Tap the Sound icon
What if Your Headset Is Not Working?
The Galaxy J2 shares a common problem with other Samsung smartphones. For some reason, the headset will occasionally fail to produce any sound even though the phone works fine when the headset is unplugged.
A fix that usually works is to restart the J2 with the headset still plugged in. You can simply turn it off and on or use the battery removal method. This should fix most audio bugs that mess with your headphones.
A Final Word
Most of the time, the reason for inconsistent audio on a Galaxy J2 will be a software glitch from the phone’s OS or from a specific app. These problems may or may not go away from soft resets, updates, or battery pulls.
If all else fails, performing a factory reset is always an option. Although it deletes all personal data from your phone, you will at least have an answer as to whether or not the issue is audio or hardware-related.
