Samsung Galaxy J5/J5 Prime – Not Receiving Calls – What to Do

If you have suddenly stopped receiving calls on your Samsung Galaxy J5 or J5 Prime, there are a few things you can do to try and fix this issue.

Samsung Galaxy J5/J5 Prime – Not Receiving Calls – What to Do

As with many other bugs and errors, a simple reset of your phone may be enough to resolve it. But if this doesn’t work, there might be a small glitch in the settings that’s preventing you from receiving phone calls. Check out the tips below to identify the cause and resolve the problem quickly.

Tip 1 – Disable Call Forwarding

If you can still make calls but can’t receive them, you may have accidentally turned on call forwarding. Also known as call diverting, this feature automatically redirects your incoming calls to another number or to your voicemail.

To check your call forwarding settings, here’s what you need to do:

Go to Call Settings

From your Home screen, tap on Phone and press the Keypad icon in the bottom right corner. Now tap on More in the top right corner of the screen and select Settings from the drop-down menu.

Go to Call Forwarding

Once inside the Call Settings menu, swipe down and tap on More Settings. On the next page, tap on Call Forwarding and then select Voice Calls.

Disable the Feature

Tap on the Always Forward option at the top of the page and then tap on Disable in the pop-up menu to disable call forwarding.

Tip 2 – Turn Call Barring Off

You may have also inadvertently turned call barring on. Whereas call blocking allows you to block calls from specific numbers, call barring automatically rejects all your incoming calls. As such, all callers will be unable to get through to your phone.

To turn this feature off, here’s what you have to do:

Go to Call Barring

From the Phone menu, tap on Keypad icon and then select the More option in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Select Settings in the drop-down menu, tap on More Settings, and then tap on Call Barring.

Unbar Incoming Calls

Tapping on Voice Call will open up a new menu with several call barring options. If the toggle next to All Incoming Calls is switched on, that’s the reason why you aren’t receiving any phone calls. To resolve the issue, switch the toggle off and exit the menu.

Tip 3 – Check Your Network Settings

If in addition to not receiving calls you’re also unable to make calls yourself, there may be an issue with your network. Perhaps your default network is out of range and you haven’t set your phone to automatically switch to another network.

Here’s what you need to do to change these settings:

Go to Settings

Swipe down from the top of the screen to bring down the Quick Settings menu and then tap on the gear icon in the top right corner.

Access Your Network Settings

Scroll down the Settings menu, select Mobile Networks, and then tap on Network Operators.

Turn On Automatic Network Selection

In the Network Operators menu, you can either manually choose one of the available networks or let your phone do it automatically. In this case, you should tap on Select Automatically. That way, if your default network is out of range, your phone will automatically switch to the strongest network available.

A Few More Tips

If you’re still unable to receive calls on your J5 or J5 Prime, there are two more things to try:

Turn Off Do Not Disturb

Go to Apps > Settings > Sound and Notifications > Do Not Disturb > Off.

Check Your SIM Card

Turn off your phone and take the SIM card out to inspect it for damage. Gently wipe it with a soft, dry cloth, insert it into the SIM card tray, and then switch the phone back on.

Final Word

In most cases, one or more of the methods outlined above should help you start receiving calls again. But if the problem still persists, you may be dealing with a more serious hardware issue. It may thus be best to take your Samsung Galaxy J5 or J5 Prime to a phone repair shop.
