Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – Device Keeps Restarting – What to Do

Even the best-rated phones can get software glitches sometimes, and some of these glitches make using your phone unbearable or impossible. Restarting issues are a prime example of this kind of problem.

Sudden restarts can occur even if you’re running the Note 8 on the latest software update. There are two different ways that your phone may manifest restarting problems.

Restarting Loop

This is perhaps the most annoying issue you can run across on a Note 8 or on any other smartphone, and it’s usually not something you can fix alone. A restarting loop prevents you from accessing your phone’s controls. You may have to contact a service center to deal with this problem, even if it means going without your phone for a while.

Occasional Restarts

Occasional or random restarts can be caused by a wide range of software glitches, and it’s irritating when they interrupt your conversations and your app use. The bad news is that they can lead to irretrievable data loss, and the problem usually doesn’t go away on its own. The good news is that you can diagnose most of these random restarts and fix them yourself.

Corrupted App Issues

Most of the time, an app will be the cause of your random restarts. But you have to determine whether it is an app you’re using constantly or one that runs in the background. If you’ve located the problem, the fix could be as easy as clearing the app’s cache.

If you’re not sure which app is causing the interruptions, you can clear all cache data by using the following steps:

  1. Select Settings from the App menu
  2. Select Device Management
  3. Tap Storage
  4. Scroll down and Tap Clean Now

This will delete all the cache data from your apps. However, this will not affect your personal data as a factory reset would.

What if the problem persists? If you’ve only been experiencing random restarts for a couple of days, try removing all recently installed apps.

Check the Phone in Safe Mode

In Safe Mode, use your phone as you normally would to see if the problem persists. If you’ve already cleared your app cache, uninstalled recent apps, and the problem still manifests itself in Safe Mode, you could be facing a hardware issue.

A Final Word

Try to do a data backup if your random resets simply won’t go away. This will allow you to try one more thing as a last resort – the factory reset. This is a simple operation you can perform from the Maintenance Boot menu.

It will reset your phone to factory settings, which means it uninstalls all apps and deletes all cached data and personal data. If your problem still persists, then your device is clearly experiencing hardware issues that may be beyond your technical abilities to fix.
