Samsung Galaxy Note 8 – Not Receiving Calls – What to Do

Even though the Note 8 is a multifunctional phone that you can use as a camera or a tablet, receiving calls is still one of its primary functions. So what should you do if you’re not receiving calls?

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 - Not Receiving Calls - What to Do

Here are the questions that you need to ask in order to fix this issue:

  • Can you receive calls from other numbers?
  • Can you make a call with the phone?

What to Do If Other Callers Can Reach You

It usually takes people a while to notice that they’re not receiving calls. If you learn that this is the case for you, start by finding out whether the problem only applies to one caller or several. Ask a friend to call you to check.

If only one caller has trouble with reaching you, their number might be blocked on your phone. Since it’s possible to block callers from your recent calls list, you might have done it by accident.

Here is how you can unblock a number on the Note 8:

  • Go Into the Phone App
  • Select Settings
  • Tap on Block Numbers

Here, you will find a list of blocked numbers. If there’s anything here that doesn’t belong, tap on the number to remove it.

What if unblocking doesn’t work? Make sure that the caller has the correct number, and then contact your carrier.

What to Do If Nobody Can Reach You, but You Can Make Calls

If you can’t receive any calls at all, your phone might be switched to Do Not Disturb mode.

To turn it off, follow these steps:

  • Go into Settings
  • Select Sound and Vibration
  • Tap on Do Not Disturb and Switch It Off

If this solution doesn’t work, you may need to check whether Call Forwarding is on. You can do that from Settings, following similar steps as above.

What to Do If You Can’t Make or Receive Calls

When you’re in Airplane mode, you can’t call anybody or receive calls. Here is how you can turn it off:

  • Go into Settings
  • Tap the Search Icon
  • Search for “airplane mode”
  • Select the Top Search Result
  • Switch the Airplane Mode Toggle to Off

You can also try to turn your phone off and then on again. If there’s a new app on your phone, uninstall it. Make sure that the software used by your Note 8 is up-to-date. You may need to manually download a software update.

But there are other possibilities as well.

  1. There May Be a Temporary Network Error

Contact your carrier for more information.

  1. You May Be Out of Range

You may go out of range even in areas that usually have coverage. If you’re abroad, it’s possible that you don’t have access to roaming.

  1. Your Usual Network Mode May Not Be Available

For example, you may need to switch from 3G to 2G. To change your network mode, go into Settings>Connections>Mobile Networks>Network Mode.

  1. There Might Be a More Complicated Software Issue

Performing a factory reset could help with this problem.

A Final Word

It’s also possible that your phone has a hardware malfunction. If none of the above solutions work, you should get in touch with your service provider or a repair shop.
