HP ProLiant DL380 G4 review

Price when reviewed

HP has been busily embedding many components on its server motherboards, and the DL380 comes as standard with an integrated lights-out (iLO) controller. The server can be accessed securely via a browser regardless of its condition, allowing you to monitor the status of the controller and server, view installed components and control power. Security is extremely good, as the server is supplied with a unique password for the iLO controller and it will only function over SSL. A dedicated 10/100BaseTX port allows management to be placed on a separate network segment.

HP ProLiant DL380 G4 review

There’s no denying HP rack servers just keep on getting better. The latest DL380 G4 offers a quality specification in a well-built and smartly designed package. The closest competition to this server comes from Dell’s PowerEdge 2800, which earned a Recommended award. In a straight comparison, there’s virtually nothing to separate them on price, but HP does win out on general build quality, internal design and remote management facilities.
