Melania Trump’s anti-cyberbully guide is one giant passive-aggressive subtweet for Donald

Back in March, the first lady of the United States, Melania Trump, addressed tech companies to assure them she was serious about a new project: making life better for children online and putting an end to cyberbullying.

Melania Trump’s anti-cyberbully guide is one giant passive-aggressive subtweet for Donald

“In my role as first lady, I receive many letters from children who have been bullied or feel threatened on social media,” she said at the time. “I’m well aware that people are sceptical of me discussing this topic, but it will not stop me from doing what I know is right.”

She didn’t explain why people might be sceptical, but you didn’t need a zoology degree to spot the elephant in the room: her husband, Donald Trump, is one of the most high-profile bullies on Twitter. Constantly punching down, the president’s Twitter account is full of insults and puerile nicknames for his enemies, and former friends who have since become enemies. Because, as the old saying goes: “an enemy is just a friend you haven’t systematically alienated yet.”

So perhaps it’s unsurprising that the long-awaited “Be Best” guide – which, true to form, actually seems to just be a rebadged version of an old FTC document – reads like a series of particularly passive-aggressive subtweets about her husband.
