Introducing Alphr

Here we are! Welcome to Alphr.

Introducing Alphr

Alphr is for people who embrace new technology and thrive on change, no matter what their job title. It’s a technology site that’s different. It’s for doers, whether you’re a one-person startup, a CTO, or the head of marketing at a major enterprise. And it’s about the whole of your life, because you don’t stop using technology when you leave the office.

We cover the amazing technologies that change the way we work and the way we live. That means we’re about more than just laptops, smartphones or even wearables (although of course we include those too). We’ll also cover cars, renewable energy, space, science – anything where people are using technology to reshape the world and make it a better place.

Being British, we’re going to look at all this with a critical eye too – particularly those governments and big companies that are using technology to surreptitiously violate your privacy and rights.

When launching a new site, one of the biggest challenges is building up a body of great content. To give Alphr a head start, we’ve incorporated the very best of pcpro.co.uk. The site had already diverged somewhat from PC Pro magazine, which remains unchanged. We’ve also spent the past few months building a team of the best tech writers in the UK. Some are already PC Pro favourites, but many are new and bring their own expertise.

Creating Alphr has been an immense project. It seems like a long time since I sat in an office and first started talking about a new technology launch that could hit where others were missing. Along the way, there’s been everything you get with a major online launch: tears, tantrums, the odd case of code or content going missing. Everyone who’s working on Alphr has done an amazing job, and I’m proud of what we’ve done so far.

But this is only day one, and we have a long way to go. The launch of a website is just the beginning. We’ve done a lot of testing, but there will definitely be things we’ve missed. We’re going to experiment all the time, and sometimes we won’t get it right, so please let us know what you think, in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter, or just by emailing me.

So, welcome to Alphr. Take a look around, and I hope you enjoy it.
