The Oculus Rift could cost more than $350

An interview with Oculus founder Palmer Luckey has revealed that the Rift could cost more than $350. “I’m going to be perfectly honest with you. We’re roughly in that ballpark, but it’s going to cost more than that,” said Luckey in the interview with Road to VR.

“I can’t tell you that it’s going to be $350,” he continued. “And I would say I think people are going to be happy with what they get for the price because I really do think it’s going to be the best VR headset you can buy.”

So where does that leave the Rift compared to its rivals? Not that bad, actually. It’s unclear how much the HTC Vive will cost on launch, and while we don’t have a price for PlayStation VR, we do know it’s being treated like a new console launch. When compared to the launch of the PlayStation 4, we’d expect a price of around £300-£400 for Sony’s headset.

What’s more, while the Oculus Rift headset alone could cost around $350, users should expect to pay much more to get the full Oculus experience. Back in May, Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe said that users will be paying roughly $1,500 (£980), when factoring in the cost of buying a PC that can support it. In contrast, the price of a Playstation VR headset and a Playstation 4 will cost around £800.
