Boston Dynamics offers a terrifying glimpse into Christmas future

Ah, Christmas. Mistletoe hanging from the ceiling. Steam rising off a plate full of roast potatoes. The looks in a child’s eye at the sight of presents under the tree. A robot army pulling Santa’s sleigh across the Massachusetts wasteland.

Trotting robot dogs might not be the most traditional Christmas image, but that hasn’t stopped Boston Dynamics from issuing a somewhat unnerving festive message involving three of the Alphabet-owned company’s Spot bots.

The Spot robots are smaller version’s of the BigDog model, which – let’s not forget – the company is developing for the US military. Knowing that under the reindeer dressing is a readied combat machine brings a newly sinister edge to hearing hooves on your roof.
