The Best Upcoming PC Games

True gamers live much of their lives anticipating the release of the next big game title – or 10. Video games are constantly being developed as new technologies and techniques become available. Even now, some top-secret projects are being worked on that may eventually win awards.

If you’re wondering what the best upcoming games releases are, look no further than this article. These titles are all available on PC, though not all are exclusive to computers.

Project 007

Project 007, the working title of this IO Interactive game, will be the latest James Bond video game to grace gamers’ consoles. Since the days of Golden Eye 007, the master spy has appeared in many titles, but the era ended in 2012’s 007 Legends due to licensing issues.

Project 007 has been in the works since its 2020 announcement, and the company is still hiring talented people to work on it. IOI is the developer of the world-renown Hitman series, and many fans have faith in the company to produce a spy game that matches and surpasses their franchise’s best.

Not much has been revealed besides a trailer of a person loading a bolt-action rifle and panning to the classic James Bond barrel shot. It remains to be seen what else will be revealed in the future.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

Warhammer 40,000 games have usually been hit-or-miss, but Darktide appears to break this mold. Its beautiful graphics are worth the label of an AAA game, and you can play with friends as it’s a co-op FPS title.

Character customization and brutal fighting are part of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. Players get to explore Tertium, a city full of factories and industrial waste. From laser weaponry to gory melee attacks, Darktide has it all.

The enclosed dark spaces are hiding spots for enemies waiting to end your life. The developers also wanted to focus on the vulnerability of humans in a universe full of deadly aliens. With these traits, any WH40K fan will surely enjoy the game when it releases on November 30, 2022.

Project L

Behind League of Legends and Valorant is Riot Games, and Project L is looking to be one of the hottest upcoming fighting games. Instead of fighting on the Summoner’s Rift, players get to control their favorite champions on small stages. Two players fight one-on-one to determine who has the better skills.

As a 2D fighting game, Project L will resemble traditional fighting games such as Street Fighter and Marvel vs. Capcom. It differs from some 2D fighters by including a tag-team system. Therefore, you choose two characters to swap between or assist as available.

Riot Games’ decision to delve into other genres than MOBA games has been quite successful, as Valorant promotes a healthy e-sports scene. Tournaments like the Valorant Champions 2022 had a prize pool of a million dollars. As Riot is known to support its games, Project L’s competitive scene may flourish.

Any League of Legends players who want to delve into the competitive and challenging world of fighting games can wait for Project L. The release date is still unknown.

Marauders

Escape from Tarkov has players scrounge for supplies and loot, but Marauders has you and three friends plunder asteroids and spaceships. Imagine if WWI didn’t end, but the countries took the fight to space. That’s Marauders – fighting in the 1990s but in space.

Unlike Escape from Tarkov, you start on your personal ship, a home you can upgrade for better combat effectiveness. If that takes too long for your taste, simply take somebody else’s ship.

With a combat system full of depth and nuances, tactical shooting game fans will love to get their hands on it. Fortunately, you can do so right now. Currently, Marauders is in Early Access.

The game isn’t complete yet, but the developers hope to release it in October 2022. The game is a step closer to completion as the developers work on fixing bugs.

LEGO Bricktales

LEGO video games have been well-received over the last two decades, and LEGO Bricktales will be one of the newest additions. Players have five biomes to explore as they help the main character’s grandfather revitalize his amusement park. You get to solve puzzles and help Mini-figures on your way.

Unlike some LEGO games, Bricktales focuses on piece-by-piece building as every brick counts toward solving problems. Getting happiness crystals from the Mini-figures is crucial to powering the alien device that will help repair the amusement park.

Developed by ClockStone and published by Thunderful Publishing, LEGO Bricktales will release on October 12, 2022. It’s almost here, and LEGO fans, young and old, can enjoy it on Steam.

Persona 3, 4, and 5

Atlus’ popular Persona series has garnered fans from all over the world, but these games have only been released on consoles. However, the developer is now aiming to bring all the mainline Persona titles like 3, 4, and 5 to PC. Gamers will rejoice as these will be the expanded versions of such games as Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal.

JRPG fans will love Atlus’ masterful storytelling, memorable characters, and innovative combat systems. The characters also get to interact with each other and form meaningful relationships.

Even though these games have been released for years, Atlus decided to transport them to PC, which is unusual. Persona 5 Royal will arrive on Steam on October 21, 2022. The other two haven’t been confirmed yet, but you’re likely to get them in 2023.

Atlus is a developer that ports game seemingly at random. Some consoles don’t get games ported to it, with the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation being notable examples. However, the franchise’s 25th anniversary is close, and we might see ports beyond these PC releases.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers

Dragon Ball is a series and franchise that focuses on powerful beings beating up other universal threats. However, Dragon Ball: The Breakers modifies the formula by placing players in the shoes of less-powerful humans as heroes. Instead of playing as Goku or Vegeta, you’ll be a Survivor.

Survivors fight Raiders, classic Dragon Ball rivals that include the likes of Cell and Buu. You can even play as a Raider who has incredible power at their disposal. No matter who you play as the matches will contain seven Survivors against one Raider.

Survivors are supposed to escape the Temporal Seam, a dimension they’re trapped in. The longer they stay, the slimmer the chances of escape. Strategy and planning at helpful for winning.

The planned release date for this game is October 14, 2022.

Sonic Frontiers

Sonic Frontiers is SEGA’s highly anticipated addition to the Sonic franchise. Speed and exploration are the names of this game, and you get to discover the secrets hidden on the Starfall Islands. You’ll be making new friends and saving old ones from robotic threats.

As a 3D platformer, players will get to blitz through levels at incredible speeds. There are many biomes like deserts and forests, each home to unique mechanics and levels.

SEGA’s planned release date for Sonic Frontiers is November 9, 2022. The game will also be updated over time. Updates are either free or paid content.

Street Fighter 6

The fourth quarter of 2022 was full of new games, but two games enraptured the masses. One is Street Fighter 6, the latest announced addition to the franchise. Compared to older titles, this one has received a graphics overhaul that keeps it from looking dated.

Street Fighter needs no introduction – it popularized the 2D fighting genre. Street Fighter 6 is powered by a custom engine called RE Engine. The trailers showcased some new features, such as real-time commentary. Capcom recorded lines from some of the community’s best casters so players can feel like they’re in a tournament.

Even legendary commentator James Chen was added, meaning Capcom pulled no punches with this new addition to the franchise. Next, they made game faces to add a bit of personality before matches start. You could make funny faces or grimace.

New and old characters will be joining the fight when the game is released in 2023.

Tekken 8

After a somewhat confusing reveal at EVO 2022, Tekken 8 was finally confirmed during a PlayStation State of Play live stream. While viewers and streamers were already aware of how realistic Kazuya Mishima looked in the first teaser, nothing prepared them for the graphical onslaught.

Tekken 8 focuses on Kazuya Mishima’s rivalry with his son Jin Kazama. The words “Real-time rendered footage captured from a title in development” meant that the trailer wasn’t a pre-rendered cinematic. Tekken 8 is no graphically mediocre game, but instead is a masterpiece. Thanks to Unreal Engine 5, the raindrops looked incredibly realistic. The competitive scene will undoubtedly be huge after the game releases.

Currently, Tekken 8’s release date is unconfirmed. However, nothing can dampen the anticipation fans have for its eventual release.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is the sequel to the well-received Fallen Order, which introduced Jedi Cal Kestis. Cal journeyed through the galaxy to improve his mastery of the force, and Survivor will continue showing players his next steps as he comes to terms with being one of the last Jedi of his time.

As an action-adventure game, it’s reasonable to expect exploration and skill trees, allowing players to unlock new abilities and more.

Developed by Respawn and published by EA, you can expect some high-quality visuals to grace your eyes. The game’s release date is undetermined, but the words “Coming Soon” can be seen on the Steam game page.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin

From the creators of Duke Nukem 3D and Max Payne is Wrath: Aeon of Ruin. This game is a blatant homage to the legendary Quake games. The speedy hardcore movement and older art style should remind older gamers of an era gone by.

Designed to emulate the shooting games from the 1990s, Wrath: Aeon of Ruin will let players blast demons and other evil supernatural beings into oblivion. Wrath is even powered by the ancient Quake 1 engine, making it a proper classic FPS title.

Though it’s made with an old game engine, the graphics aren’t bad at all. The gun models are based on older weapons undoubtedly familiar to Quake fans.

Though the game is in Early Access, the full version’s release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Diablo 4

The fourth mainline title in the Diablo series is currently in development, with a release date sometime in 2023. The classic hack-and-slash MMORPG is finally back after the rather poor response to Diablo Immortal. The cinematic trailers and gameplay for Diablo 4 are all beautifully crafted.

The developers have certainly heard player complaints and promised to improve the inventory system, which has always been relatively poor. They also mentioned making non-Legendary items more valuable, so players won’t only farm for those. Instead, Rare and Unique items will be helpful.

On the other hand, Legendary items will have random affixes, which makes getting the best stats a longer process. You might get lucky, but many people won’t.

Payday 3

Payday 3 is the sequel to Overkill Software’s wildly popular game Payday 2. Players take the role of bank robbers and expert criminals who break into banks, hold up convenience stores, and perform dirty work for cash. A tweet from the official Payday account was all it took to start a storm.

Set in New York, players will get to live life as criminals planning their next big heist. As a nod to current events, there will be cryptocurrency-related crimes to commit. The game is set to release in 2023.

A Painful Wait

With this many upcoming titles and more, the video game industry continues to grow and expand its reach. People are enjoying more games, and the developers are happy to deliver. Today, PC games are an art form, and you can experience them with a powerful gaming rig.
