Sometimes accidents happen. When they do, you want to make sure you have a reliable backup of your smartphone data. Backing up your data from a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is easy. Check out the simple steps below to safeguard your files.

Local Backup to Phone
You can back up your data using your device’s Backup feature. Your backup data is stored on your phone’s internal storage or in some cases an SD card.
Step 1 – Access Backup Settings
First, access your Settings menu. You can do this by tapping on the Settings icon from your Home screen. Alternatively, you may also swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Notifications panel. From there, tap on the little gear icon in the upper right corner.
From the Settings menu, scroll down to the System & Device section and tap on Additional Settings. Next, choose Backup & Reset and then Local Backups from the next submenu.
Step 2 – Back Up Data
Tap on the Backup button near the bottom of the screen. You may be asked for your password prior to seeing this screen, so enter it if prompted.
After you tap on Backup, another screen will pop up showing the number of files for both your System and Apps. You can tap on either one to specify the files you want to back up. By default, all the files are selected.
Once you’ve chosen your backup files, tap on Backup at the bottom of the screen to confirm the action.
Back Up to Mi Cloud
If you prefer to use a cloud service for backing up your data, you can do it via the Mi Cloud for free. You do need to sign up for an account, though, and make sure that you are logged in on your device.
Step 1 – Access Backup Options
To backup your data to the Xiaomi cloud, go back to Backup settings. Get there by going to your Settings menu > Additional Settings > Backup & Reset.
Step 2 – Back Up to Mi Cloud
From the Backup & Reset menu, tap on Backup Settings under the Mi Cloud Backup section. You may be prompted to sign in to your account if you aren’t already. If you are already signed in on your device, you will be immediately directed to the backup page.
Tap on “Back up now” near the top of the screen to back up your data. Additionally, you can also toggle on the option for automatic backups or modify your backup schedule if you opt for automatic backups.
Other Options
If you prefer to back up your files to a PC, you need a third-party app. Connecting your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 to a PC will allow you to transfer some media files, but it does not allow for a full backup.
You can also back up your phone data via Google’s backup services to save your contacts. However, it does not save your preferences or settings, nor does it save your media files.
Furthermore, you can save media files to other cloud services such as Dropbox or Google Drive, but you would need to upload each file individually to the service.
Final Thought
Creating full backups of your phone data is easy using Xiaomi’s native features such as internal backups or Mi Cloud. However, if you prefer to have your files on your computer, you may need to do further research to find the best third-party app for you.
