Intel’s Core i5-760 is the driving force behind the XDNA 760, and Yoyotech has managed to eke maximum performance out of its four cores with a hefty overclock. The new 4.2GHz clock speed (up from the stock 2.8MHz) generated a result of 2.87 in our application benchmarks. That’s the best result we’ve ever seen, easily beating the A-Listed Wired2Fire Hellspawn XFire, which scored 2.49, and the Chillblast Fusion Photo OC III, which returned an even faster 2.55 in the same tests. It’s proof that only the most demanding users will find the XDNA 760 wanting for power.
Remarkably, the Yoyotech marks the first time we’ve seen an Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 in the wild since its March release. Back then, its superb performance was offset by a high price, but here it looks more tempting thanks to a score of 36fps in our 1,920 x 1,080 Very High quality Crysis benchmark and a 32fps score in the same test with 4x anti-aliasing activated.
The latest games clearly won’t be a problem for this system, and our temperature tests showed it won’t get hot under the collar doing so either. The processor idled at 38 degrees Celcius and peaked at 67, and the graphics chip ran at a comfortable maximum temperature of 84 degrees.
A 64GB Kingston SSD keeps Windows 7 Home Premium feeling snappy – our tests show that it’s almost twice as fast as the 1TB Samsung SpinPoint F3 hard disk that’s included for traditional storage – and a Blu-ray reader is sandwiched between the fan controller and water-cooling reservoir.
Four gigabytes of RAM is fine but, when compared to the whopping 12GB included in the Chillblast, it looks a little mean. Nevertheless, there’s plenty to like about the XDNA 760. It’s expensive, sure, but enthusiasts will be able to appreciate both the superb performance and the tricked-out, high-quality chassis. If you want to splash the cash on a high-end base unit, we can think of few better than this.
