When you get set up with a new Asus router, consider changing the internal IP address. The process is easier than you think and it will protect you in the long run.

What is an IP Address?

IP stands for Internet Protocol and it’s a way to identify a specific machine (like a computer) over the internet. An IP address consists of a series of numbers and periods. If you know the IP address of a machine, you can communicate with it directly over the internet.

Your router has two IP addresses: an internal one and an external one. Also called a local IP address, the internal address allows you to access the router control panel and make necessary changes to its configuration.

Unless you’ve already changed it, your internal IP address is set to the factory standard. For Asus routers, this is typically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.

The process for changing your Asus router IP address may differ somewhat depending on the type of Asus router you have. However, it should be largely similar.

Log in to your router on your computer.
Click LAN in the sidebar.
Click LAN IP near the top of the page.
Activate the box labeled IP Address with your cursor.
Enter the new number.

Find Your IP Address on Windows or Mac

If your computer is connected to your Asus router you can quickly and easily find your IP address.

Mac users can follow these instructions:

Option 1

Locate the WiFi icon in the upper right-hand corner of your Mac. Use the keyboard and hold the Option key while clicking on the WiFi icon. A drop-down menu will appear. Your IP address is listed there.

Option 2

Click on the Apple icon in the upper right-hand corner. Then click ‘System Preferences.’ Next, click on the ‘Network’ icon. Click on ‘Advanced.’ Both the TCP/IP and DNS tabs should show your routers’ IP address.

Find Your Router’s IP Address on PC

PC users can easily find the Asus router IP address by doing this:

Open the Control Center on your computer (you can find this in the Start menu or simply type it into the search box). Click on the ‘View Network status and tasks’ hyperlink under ‘Network and Internet.’

Click on the name of your network in the upper right-hand corner. Then, click ‘Details.’ Your routers’ IP address will be listed here.

Find Your IP Address on Your Smartphone

Apple devices will also show you your router’s IP Address. Unfortunately, Android users don’t have an option to see this information on their phones without a third-party application.

Find the IP Address – iPhone

iPhone users should follow these steps:

Open the Settings on your iPhone and tap on ‘WiFi.’ Tap on the name of your WiFi network. The routers’ IP Address will appear to the right of ‘Router.’
