One of the most popular Snapchat features is Snapchat Story, where users can post their Snaps which last for 24 hours. People usually post pictures of food, pets, or pictures from their night outs, and the temporary nature of Snapchat Stories is a big part of the Snapchat experience. However, many Snaps are worth saving.

This article will show you how you can easily set your Snapchat app to automatically save your Snapchat Stories.
Automatically Saving Snapchat Stories on Your Smartphone
It goes without saying that you can save all of your Snapchat Stories manually. You can download them through the app itself or just take a regular screenshot after you have posted them.
But this can be easy to forget, and it’s far more convenient if your Stories are downloaded automatically as soon as you post them. Luckily, Snapchat has included a feature that enables all users to do this.
Here is how you can use your Snapchat app to automatically save your Stories:
- Open your Snapchat app
- Select your profile icon at the top left corner of the screen
- Tap on the Gear icon
- Select Memories from the displayed option menu – located below Notifications
- Tap on Auto-Save My Story Snaps option
- Select Auto-Save to Memories
If you want to save your Snapchat Stories to your smartphone, your job is not over yet – you also need to tap on the “Save Button” option, located under the SAVE DESTINATIONS tab.

From there, select where you want your Snapchat Stories to be automatically stored. You can select Memories, Camera Roll, or both.

Snapchat Memories is a feature that allows users to save their pictures and videos for later. This basically works like Instagram’s Story Archive feature, meaning that you will be able to view your previous Snaps whenever you want from the app. You can also send those Snaps or download them later from Memories.
It is best to select Memories & Camera Roll as it will keep your Snaps both in the app and on your phone, and you can view or send them whenever you like. But if you want to save your Story Snaps only on your smartphone, select Camera Roll Only. Obviously, this will take up space on your device.
Deleting Snaps from Your Snapchat Story
Saving Snapchat Stories is useful for many reasons but sometimes you want to delete some of them instead. Whether you have posted the wrong photo or you’ve changed your mind once your Story has been uploaded, you need to know how to delete it.
The following steps will show you how you can easily take your Story Snap down:
- Open your Snapchat app
- Tap on your profile icon at the top left corner of the camera screen – this will open the Stories page
- Find the Snap that you want to delete from your Snapchat Story and tap on it
- Swipe up then tap on the trash can icon – located in the lower-left corner of the screen
- Tap on Delete from the popup window
If you want to save your Snap before deleting it, all that you need to do is tap on the Save option. This option is located next to the trash can icon.
To completely delete a Snap from your Memories, here is what you should do:
- Open Snapchat
- Swipe up on the camera screen – this will open the Memories page
- Locate the Story that you want to delete and long press to select.
- Select the trash can icon that will pop-up at the bottom of the screen
- Tap on Delete from the popup window
After you have completed the last step, your Snap will completely be deleted from your Snapchat Memories.
What you need to know as a Snapchat user is that you cannot delete a Snap once you have sent it. As of February 2017, you can’t delete sent Snaps even if you delete your Snapchat account. With that in mind, be careful with who you send your Snaps to and what you choose to post.
Enjoy Snapping
Snapchat becomes much more fun to use if you know how to use all the features it offers.
Since Snapchat always keeps including something new with their new updates, make sure that you are always up to date with their software. You don’t miss new interesting features.
