Hello. I have both a Fire Tablet HD 8 and HD 10.
Both tablets are brand new. When in Show Mode, using the power cable or not; and when the devices are scrolling through the Alexa Cards, the screen will go black after about 5 minutes. Show Mode stays active though, because when I tap on the screen, the display comes back to life. And I see Show Mode is still scrolling through the Alexa Cards. This is obviously not the way Amazon intended this to work, because if the code is purposely timing out the screen after 5 minutes in Show Mode, then it defeats the purpose of having Show Mode in the first place! I also have an Echo Show, and that device doesn’t ever time out. So, I have tried everything. Nothing is fixing this. Settings are correct. No third party apps installed from third party sources. Memory is not close to being full. Amazon Customer Service concurs there is a problem, but they are reluctant to admit that perhaps the problem is on their end; and maybe even a bug in the Fire OS. That has to be the problem. I am on my third set of devices, and they ALL have acted this way. The only workaround I found is an approved App in the Amazon App Store called “Keep Screen ON – Stay Awake.” When this app is active with Show Mode, the displays stay on continuosly. No black screen. The downside? At night, in a pitch blackened room, Show Mode doesn’t dim or display the Ambient Clock (also active), because the aforementioend Screen ON app is telling the device to keep the screen active. And yes, my OS is fully up to date. What I noticed is that, when I try to investigate why this keeps happening, and I take the device out of Show Mode, I have to swipe up to unlock the Home Screen (no PIN or Passcode is set). Seems there is built-in security, which causes the screen to lock, whether you have a PIN/Passcode set or not. This functionality could also be conflicting with Show Mode, or just be buggy. Any suggestions? Please help. Very frustrating. Thank you very much.
