Is an Eero Compatible With Verizon Fios? Yep!

The more our lives are digitized, the more people look for high-speed internet access at home. Two names you might know are eero and Verizon’s Fios fiber-optic network. If you’re wondering if the two are compatible, you’ve come to the right place.

Amazon’s Eero Router

One of the hottest internet products right now is the Eero Wi-Fi system made by Amazon. It claims to be the first mesh Wi-Fi network that covers the whole home. Amazon releases periodic updates for the hardware to ensure they work well all the time.

The second selling point of Eero is its ease of use. It can integrate with your current internet service provider within minutes. All that’s needed is to get the eero app and connect the eero router to your modem. (The model of router you have may change some of the steps.)

After doing so, the home should receive a Wi-Fi signal. You can say goodbye to dead zones.

Verizon Fios

Verizon Fios is a group of fiber-optic network packages that offer gigabit speeds. The packages have no hidden fees or equipment charges. What you see is what you get.

The fastest package lets you reach almost a full gigabyte of speed, but there are packages for 500 Mbps and 300 Mbps. All three come with rented routers and price guarantees.

Setting Up eero With Verizon Fios

How you set up eero with Verizon Fios can vary, as using Fios TV and Internet requires a double NAT and placing the routers in bridge mode. If you only have Fios Internet, you can connect the eero directly to an optical network terminal.

Using Fios TV and Internet

To set eero up with Verizon Fios, you can bridge your Eero or make it a double NAT system. We’ll cover the first one below.

1. Download and install the eero app on your mobile device.
   
2. Use the app to create the eero network.
   
3. Tap on the “Settings” option in the bottom-right corner.
   
4. Select “Advanced.”
   
5. Go to “DHCP & NAT.”
   
6. Change from “Automatic” to either “Bridge” or “Manual.”
   
7. Save the settings.

Some networks require you to double-NAT the eero first. Here are the steps.

1. Plug the gateway eero router into your router.
   
2. Open the eero app.
   
3. Follow the app’s instructions.

Those with a modem and router combo can perform the above steps by plugging the gateway eero directly into the device. The app will then let you bridge the eero routers.

When you perform a double NAT setup, you should give the eero network a different SSID and password. If not, there will be some complications.

Using Fios Internet only

People who use Fios Internet only can plug the eero directly into the optical network terminal (ONT). However, not every ONT is configured the same way. Some will only communicate with your eero router through a coax cable, while others use an Ethernet cable.

You’ll have to perform different processes depending on what it’s made to do.

For ONTs configured for a coax cable, you should try calling the Verizon Fiber Solutions Center at 1-800-VERIZON. They’ll handle the rest and let the eero connect to the fiber-optic network. If that’s not possible, you can bridge the eero.

ONTs configured for Ethernet cables are easier to handle. There are four main solutions.

The first solution is to turn the router off for two hours. That’s because the Verizon Fios DHCP internal lasts for that long. The router can get a new lease if the current lease is expired.

You can also call the Verizon Fiber Solutions center, as they can break the lease for you. That way, you won’t have to wait for two hours.

The Fios app has a troubleshooter for when you can’t connect to the internet.

1. Open the Fios app on your mobile device.
   
2. Look for an option called “I Can’t Connect To The Internet.”
3. Follow the steps on the screen.

Finally, you can connect a computer to the Fios router and use the user interface.

1. Go to your computer and open a web browser.
   
2. Type your router’s IP address in.
   
3. Log in with the credentials.
   
4. Look for the “Network Connections” options.
   
5. Select “Release.”
   
6. Apply the settings.
   
7. Disconnect the router to prevent it from getting a new DHCP lease.

Setting the eero up shouldn’t be a problem if you find the correct options.

Because Verizon only lets each account have one MAC address, you need to disconnect the old router and set up the eero with its app. Next, you can use the Verizon app to report the trouble.

Verizon will then run a test and release the MAC address they stored. Your eero routers can now connect.

Not so Difficult

While setting up a router up might seem complicated, many apps help streamline the process today. Most of the time, you want to make the right hardware connections before completing the system setup. Overall, it’s accurate to say that Amazon’s eero is compatible with Verizon Fios.
