How to Make a Poll in Snapchat

You’re probably aware that Facebook polls are easy to post and very engaging. Instagram introduced its poll feature in October 2017, and it was an immediate success. Twitter polls are also extremely popular, and they cover both fun topics and serious ones. Why are polls so popular on social media?

How to Make a Poll in Snapchat

People like answering questions and making snap decisions. They like expressing their opinions, especially when there’s a quick and easy way to do that. Running a poll is an entertaining way to get in touch with your followers. It can also help you attract new ones. Some polls start conversations, while some simply give people a fun question to think about.

If you mainly use Snapchat for your social media, however, you’ll be happy to learn that the app has finally added a simple, effective way to collect your Snapchat friends’ opinions about any subject!

Making a Poll on Snapchat Stories

Until September of 2020, Snapchat users had to rely on third-party mobile apps and browser apps to create polls that they could then link to their friends. Thankfully, Snapchat eventually introduced an easy way to create polls directly within the app using the sticker function. If you’d like to create a poll to add to your Snapchat story, simply follow these steps:

  1. Open your Snapchat app.
  2. Either Take or Upload a Photo (even if it’s just a black screen.)
  3. Tap on the Sticker button on the right of the screen.
  4. Select Poll near the top.
  5. Type the text portion of your poll; make it a question!
  6. Tap on My Story near the bottom.

Your poll will be directly posted to your story for all of your Snapchat friends to see! As with all stories, the poll will only last for 24 hours before it is no longer available for your friends to see.

Sending a Poll to a Select Group of People

Maybe you don’t want your entire Snapchat friends list to be able to answer your poll. If that’s the case, posting it to your story may not be the best idea. Instead, consider sending it to just a handful of people. To do so, simply follow these steps:

  1. Open your Snapchat app.
  2. Either Take or Upload a Photo (even if it’s just a black screen.)
  3. Tap on the Sticker button on the right of the screen.
  4. Select Poll near the top.
  5. Type the text portion of your poll; make it a question!
  6. Tap on Send near the bottom right and select the friends you would like to receive the poll.

This was your poll will only go to a desired group of people, not your entire friends list. This can be helpful if you are trying to ask a question about a more sensitive or secretive subject; maybe you’re planning a surprise party for a friend and don’t want them to know!

Wrapping Up

Social media is always being updated to give users more tools for customization and interaction, and Snapchat is no exclusion. While they may not be the first to adopt new features, Snapchat tends to eventually roll out its own version of popular features from other social media networks. Polls are extremely popular elsewhere, as they allow content creators to encourage engagement from their followers.
