With computers increasingly becoming part of people’s entertainment setups, it’s surprising we don’t see more high-end speaker systems. This set aims to fill that gap: its 5.1 set is compatible with computer output but can also be connected to the S/PDIF output of two other sources, such as a Blu-ray player and games console, courtesy of the optional Decoder Station box (£104 exc VAT on its own). We found it capable of stomach-rumbling levels of volume, but sound quality was unbalanced. The bass was flabby and there wasn’t enough body to the mid-range. So, while we like the idea of the Decoder Station, the speakers don’t cut it.
