Presumably, for copyright reasons, Instagram doesn’t let you save photos from the website or app. That can be pretty annoying if you’ve lost the photographs you’ve taken and uploaded to the site, and want to get a sepia-tinged copy back to your phone or laptop.
Fortunately, there are a number of third-party tools to help you get them back. So without further ado, here’s how to save photos from Instagram.
How to save photos from Instagram on desktop:
By far the simplest way to save Instagram photos is on desktop or laptop. A simple web tool means you don’t need to download any applications or jump through too many hoops.
- Go to www.downloadgram.com
- You’ll be presented with an incredibly easy interface – you just need the URL of the image you want to download. Just head to your profile, click on the photo and copy that URL.
- Paste the URL into the box on Downloadgram, and a jpeg version of the photo will download to your desktop. A test picture of my cat, Humphries, weighed in at 117kb.
How to save photos from Instagram on mobile:
You’re not near a computer, and need your Instagram photos back sooner? No problem, there’s an app for that. Personally, I’d recommend doing things on desktop, as who knows what an app might contain, but if you really can’t wait, there are a number of solutions that claim to offer the ability to save photos from Instagram.
On iOS, there’s an app called Instaget which seems to let you save photos from Instagram. It’s got pretty solid reviews, averaging 4.9/5.0 so it looks worth a try in a pinch.
On Android, FastSave seems to be a decent alternative, with an average score of 4.4/5.
