Tesla electric truck: What to expect from Elon Musk’s EV lorry announcement

After months of delays, Tesla is finally ready to unveil its all-electric truck – or lorry. Tesla was set to announce the eagerly awaited follow up to the Model 3 around a month ago, but Model 3 production delays meant Elon Musk decided to push the date back. And now, after sending invites out last week to Model S and X owners, Tesla is finally ready to unveil its new Semi. Here’s what to expect.

Tesla electric lorry:  Specs and design

Despite the delays, Elon Musk is still confident Tesla’s electric semi-truck will beat the competition when it’s finally released. In yet another tweet, Elon Musk replied to a Twitter user, saying: “Semi specs are better than anything I’ve seen reported so far.” That suggests the Tesla lorry should have better specs than the Cummins electric lorry – though we’ll have to wait to find out how much better.

As for the design? We don’t really know what the Tesla lorry will look like, but new renderings from Jan Peisert, a web designer based in Germany, look amazing. And because they’re based on an image already teased by Elon Musk himself, there’s a very good chance the finished Tesla lorry will look just as good.

The invites

The invites themselves contain another image of Tesla’s electric lorry, but it doesn’t reveal much more about the company’s “semi truck” unfortunately. Last month, spy shots obtained by Electrek revealed a possible test mule for Tesla’s new product – but it’s unlikely the new lorry will look much like it. We’ll get a better look come November 16th.
