How to Create a Poll in YouTube

A great way to increase audience engagement on your YouTube videos is through opinion polls. If you have an adult channel and 1,000 or more subscribers, you’ll be eligible to create polls. You can create and post a poll via the “Community” tab. Or create a live poll to appear at a specific point on your video using the “Create card” feature.

Read on to find out how to create polls via both options using various devices.

How to Create a Poll in YouTube on a PC

To create your YouTube poll via the Community tab from a PC, follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to studio.youtube.com, then select “Create” from the top right.
  2. Choose “Create post” from the menu.
  3. Select the “Poll” icon from the Community tab, then “Add a poll.” Now you can add the poll question and up to five options.
  4. Once you’ve entered the poll question, enter your options in the “Add option” fields. For more options, click “Add another choice.”
  5. Once you’re happy with your poll, click “Post” to post it now, or you can schedule it for another time.

Follow these steps to create a live poll using the “Poll card” feature:

  1. Access the YouTube Creator Studio and locate the video you wish to add the poll.
  2. Under the video, select the “Cards” tab.
  3. At the top right corner of the edit cards page, select the “Add Cards” option, then at the “Poll” category, choose “Create.”
  4. Type your poll question, and enter the options. For additional options, select “Add another choice.” You can have five options altogether.
  5. Now select “Create Card.”
  6. To specify where in the video you’d like the poll question to appear, beneath the video, move the poll marker under the timeline to select where you want to insert the poll.
  7. To delete the poll once it’s over, locate the card. At the far right select “Poll results.” Click on the Trash icon, then “Delete” to confirm.

How to Create a Poll in YouTube on an Android

Follow these steps to create a community opinion poll using the YouTube app via your Android device:

  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. On the home page, tap on your user icon in the top right corner.
  3. Choose “Your Channel.”
  4. On the menu bar along the top, slide the options from right to left until you come to the “Community” option.
  5. At the top of the “Community” page, tap on the text field to create a post, then enter your poll question.
  6. Next, tap on the poll icon at the bottom left corner of the text box.
  7. Now enter your poll options in the pop-up text fields. Tap “Add another choice” to add more.
  8. To choose whether to make your poll for subscribers only or the public, tap the drop-down icon next to “Public.” And next to that, tap the clock icon if you wish to schedule another time or day to upload it.
  9. If you’re ready to upload it now, tap “Post” at the top right corner.

At the time of writing, the YouTube mobile and YouTube Studio app does not include the poll cards option. However, you can access the YouTube desktop version via your Android device to add a poll card to your YouTube video. The experience won’t be the same, but you’ll achieve the same outcome. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. From your Android device, navigate to the YouTube.com website.
  2. To switch to the desktop version, tap on the three-dotted menu icon at the top right, then scroll down to select the “Desktop site” option.
  3. Now find the video you wish to add the poll card to and tap “Edit.”
  4. Select the “Cards” option from the tab bar.
  5. From the top right corner, choose “Add Cards,” then from the “Poll” category, select “Create.”
  6. Enter your poll question and the choices. For additional options, tap “Add another choice.”
  7. Once you’re happy, select “Create Card.”

How to Create a Poll in YouTube on an iPad

Follow these steps to post a YouTube opinion poll via the Community tab using your iPad:

  1. Launch the YouTube app.
  2. Tap on your user icon on the top right corner of the home page.
  3. Select “Your Channel.”
  4. Slide the options from right to left on the top menu, then select the “Community” option.
  5. At the top of the “Community” page, press the text field to create a post and begin entering your poll questions.
  6. At the bottom left of the text box, tap the poll icon.
  7. Enter your poll options, then tap “Add another choice” if necessary.
  8. To allow public or subscribers-only access to your poll, press the pull-down icon next to “Public.” Beside that option, press the clock icon to post it at a specific time or day.
  9. When you’re ready to upload it, press “Post” at the top right corner.

The poll cards feature is unavailable via YouTube mobile and the YouTube Studio app. Although the user experience won’t be the same, you can access the desktop version of YouTube via your iPad. Follow these steps to do just that:

  1. Navigate to the YouTube.com website.
  2. Tap on the three-dotted menu icon at the top right, then scroll down to select the “Desktop site” option.
  3. Locate the video you wish to add the poll card to, then tap “Edit.”
  4. From the menu bar, choose the “Cards” option.
  5. At the top right corner, choose “Add Cards.”
  6. From the “Poll” category, choose “Create.”
  7. Enter your poll question and the options. For more options, tap “Add another choice.” You can have up to five choices.
  8. Once you’re satisfied, select “Create Card.”

How to Create a Poll in YouTube on an iPhone

The steps to create YouTube opinion polls using your iPhone are the same as the iPad. Here are the steps to create a poll via the Community:

  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. Select your user icon on the top right corner, then choose “Your Channel.”
  3. From the menu options along the top, tap “Community.”
  4. At the top of the “Community” page, tap on the text field to create a post and enter your poll question.
  5. At the left corner of the text box, press the poll icon.
  6. Enter your poll options information, tap “Add Another Option” if required.
  7. You can decide whether the public or subscribers only get to see your poll by selecting the option from the drop-down menu next to the “Public” option.
  8. You can also decide when to post the poll by clicking the clock icon and selecting the time or date.
  9. Tap “Post” from the top right corner if you’re ready to upload now.

The YouTube mobile and YouTube Studio app does not include the poll cards feature at the time of writing. As a workaround, you can access the desktop version via your iPhone. Although the experience won’t be the same, you’ll achieve the goal of creating a poll on your video. Follow these steps:

  1. From your iPhone device, go to the YouTube.com website.
  2. Switch to the site’s desktop version by selecting the three-dotted menu icon at the top right, then scroll down to select the “Desktop site” option.
  3. Go to the video you wish to add the poll card to and tap “Edit.”
  4. From the menu bar, press the “Cards” option.
  5. Choose “Add Cards” from the top right, then from the “Poll” category, select “Create.”
  6. Add your poll question and options. For additional options, tap “Add another choice.”
  7. When you’re satisfied with the poll, select “Create Card.”

Opinion Polls to Increase YouTube Engagement

YouTube opinion polls are a great way to encourage engagement and increase the time spent on your videos. Polls can be posted to your channel via the “Community” tab. Or use the “Poll cards” feature to allow your viewers access to a live poll on your video. Although the “Cards” feature is not available via the YouTube mobile app, it can be accessed when switching to the desktop site via YouTube.com
