What Is HypeSquad in Discord?

Have you ever heard about Discord’s HypeSquad? If you are on Discord frequently, you’ll have noticed certain badges next to the names of some of the members. Who are they? How did they get those cool badges? What can I do to become a part of the squad? What are the benefits? And, just what is Discord HypeSquad? Well, read on and you’ll find out.

What Is HypeSquad in Discord?

Discord’s Representatives

In essence and at its very core, HypeSquad is a group of Discord members who’ve been selected to represent Discord online, all around the world. But what does this mean? Well, it certainly has more to it than a fancy badge and a sense of belonging. It’s about being a part of a growing community that supports itself and uses its own members to spread the reach. All the while, the squad members grow themselves, as both Discord users and online personas.

HypeSquad Tiers

Not every member of Discord’s HypeSquad does the same thing. Essentially, there’s the Online Tier and the Event Tier. As a member of the HyperSuqad’s online tier, you are a foot soldier in Discord’s army of reach-spreaders. You use social media, your own content, and Discord platform to spread the word about Discord and make it a better place. As an online member, you get three perks:

a) HypeSquad exclusive newsletter.

b) The HypeSquad badge.

c) Special house-exclusive challenges in which you can compete with other houses.

The Event Tier, on the other hand, offers the positions of the HypeSquad Event Attendee and the HypeSquad Event Coordinator. As an attendee, you’ll get to hang with other members and attend offline conventions and events. As the HypeSquad Event Attendee, you also get three perks:

a) All the perks of the online members (with an additional Events badge).

b) A “Swag Pack” that includes pins, stickers, and an exclusive T-shirt.

c) HypeSquad Event Server access.

The HypeSquad Coordinators, however, are on the very top of the entire HypeSquad organization. They are Even Coordinators that plant offline events for Discord, which is quite a prestigious position. As a HypeSquad Coordinator, you get awesome perks:

a) All the perks of the online members (with an additional Events badge).

b) HypeSquad Event Server access.

c) VIP perks for the conventions.

d) Fantastic event packages.

HypeSquad Houses

But certain houses were mentioned? Are these called tiers? No, the HypeSquad Houses are something entirely different.  Members of the HypeSquad are sorted into three houses, Bravery, Brilliance, and Balance.

But just what are these houses? Well, think of it as Hogwarts houses. You even get sorted into one without getting to choose. As a HypeSquad house member, you’ll get to compete against other houses for prizes, plus you’ll get access to a special newsletter, available only to house members.

So, how do you get into a house? It’s actually very simple. Just go to User Settings while logged into your Discord profile and check out the HypeSquad tab. Here, you’ll find an option to take an aptitude test that consists of five questions. Based on your answers, you’ll be placed in one of the three mentioned houses. Here are the taglines for each.

House of Bravery

“The universe needs people to lead the charge with confident optimism and tenacity. Without the brave, the HypeSquad would descend into chaos.”

House of Brilliance

“It takes patience and discipline to become a vital member of the universe. Without brilliance, the HypeSquad would descend into chaos.”

House of Balance

“Harmony and poise are necessary to create equilibrium in the universe. Without balance, the HypeSquad would descend into chaos.”

So, what do these houses do? How is each one responsible for making Discord a better place to hang? Well, a part of the answer is hidden in each of the houses’ tagline. The other part, well, let’s just say that you need to become a house member in order to find out.

Requirements

Not everyone can become a part of HypeSquad. It is an exclusive community, at least to an extent. To become an online member, you need to be at least 13-years-old. However, this isn’t much of a requirement, as you need to be 13 or older in order to use Discord, in the first place.

To join the events tier, you need to be at least 16 and do gaming-related events, conventions, and gaming tournaments. As for the work events, if you want to be in charge of these, you need to apply with a 3-minute video (or shorter), in which you show your personality, face, as well as answer questions. Oh, and you’ll need to impress the guys and gals at Discord to land this position.

Should I Join?

The answer to this question is a resounding yes. There is no downside to joining the HypeSquad, and there are is quite a number of perks. You’ll get to participate in contests, get rewards, and you’ll get to meet loads of new people. Networking is essential in life and Discord is no different. So go ahead, go to the HypeSquad tab on your profile, take the aptitude test, and join in on all the fun.
