Fate Grand Order Tier List – A Complete Listing

Fate Grand Order, or FGO for short, is one of the most popular gacha-style turn-based mobile RPGs. As players progress through the game’s immersive story, they inevitably get more Servants (the playable characters) to use and get an increasing number of combinations between them. Having so many Servants in one place can be confusing, especially when you want to finish fights as quickly and elegantly as possible. While FGO is in a decently balanced state, some Servants are better than others.

Fate Grand Order Tier List - A Complete Listing

We’re here to explain the differences between the top Servants and provide insight on the best ones to use in your team in our tier list.

Fate Grand Order Servant Tier List

Servants are typically classified by rarity and class, with rarities ranging from one to five stars. Higher-tiered Servants are much rarer and less likely to be pulled via the frequent summons players use to obtain new resources to bolster their team composition.

By conscious design, five-star Servants are inherently more powerful than lower-rarity Servants and have a higher maximum level without using Grail Ascension (Palingenesis). Therefore, any five-star Servants you have at your disposal are more likely to be better investments in the long run on average. They are less likely to produce bad results in a fight, and even a mediocre five-star Servant will perform well compared to low-rarity ones.

Without further ado, here’s a complete FGO Servant tier list. We’ll provide a brief overview of the best Servants to use in top tiers.

4-Star Grand Order Fate Tier List

There are very few unusable four-rank Servants in the game. Most four-stars are perfectly capable of carrying a player through the entire game in place of a 5-star Servant (which some players might not obtain in time), making them the premier Servants to prioritize.

The Best

Your starting Servant, Mashu Kyrielight, can easily become one of the greatest team members given enough time and player progression. However, a few lucky rolls can replace her with suitable alternatives:

  • Sakata Kintoki (Rider)
  • Katsushika Hokusai (Saber)
  • Nagao Kagetora
  • Prince of Lan Ling
  • Jeanne d’Arc (Berserker Alter)
  • Sieg
  • Atalante (Alter)

  • Parvati
  • BB
  • Minamoto-no-Raikou (Lancer)
  • Yagyu Munenori
  • Ryougi Shiki (Assassin)

While these are not as good as the best 4-ranks in the game, they’re usually good enough to defeat most bosses at a high enough level and upgrades.

  • Valkyrie
  • Sakamoto Ryouma
  • Chiron
  • Asagami Fujino

  • Berserker of El Dorado
  • Gilgamesh (Caster)
  • Ibaraki-Douji
  • Carmilla

These characters are more niche-focused than others or have lackluster defenses that might require more setup and support to work their finest.

  • Carmilla (Rider)
  • Lakshmi Bai
  • Queen Medb (Saber)
  • Ushiwakamaru (Assassin)
  • Kiyohime (Lancer)

  • Medea (Lily)
  • Anne Bonny & Mary Read
  • Tamamo Cat
  • Marie Antoinette
  • Chevalier d’Eon

  • Medusa (Lancer)
  • Beowulf
  • Elisabeth Bathory (Halloween)
  • Qin Liangyu
  • Helena Blavatsky (Archer)

  • Miyu Edelfelt
  • Yu Mei-ren
  • Assassin of Shinjuku
  • Irisviel (Holy Grail)

3-Star Fate Grand Order Tier List

Since you can get these Servants with regular summons, leveling their NP up will be easier, making them more useful than comparable 4-rank Servants. Generally, these will be your bread and butter until enough high-ranking Servants are leveled.

The Best

There are only two great rank-three Servants: Paracelsus and Euryale. Paracelsus is excellent in AoE damage and skill boosts, while Euryale is the best way to kill a male boss or at least charm-lock him to let the other team members have their time in the light.

B Tier

These include solid Servants that you should always consider in party composition. Just make sure to watch for passive bonuses to maximize damage output and buffs.

  • Asclepius
  • Antonio Salieri
  • Lu Bu Fengxian
  • Medea
  • Cu Chulainn
  • Robin Hood
  • William Tell
  • Okada Izo
  • Avicebron
  • Houzouin Inshun
  • Bedivere
  • Hassan of the Hundred Personas
  • David
  • Ushiwakamaru
  • Gaius Julius Caesar

C Tier

While these often work just fine, you might need to be more careful with taking hits from enemies, making buffs paramount in keeping the team alive.

  • Tawara Touta
  • Fuuma Kotarou
  • Jaguar Warrior
  • Charles Babbage
  • Alexander
  • Medusa
  • Romulus
  • Cu Chulainn (Prototype)
  • Mori Nagayoshi
  • Red Hare
  • Rider of Resistance
  • Hassan of the Serenity
  • Billy the Kid
  • Kid Gilgamesh
  • Fergus mac Roich
  • Hektor
  • Kiyohime
  • Jing Ke

D Tier

There are most likely better options for you to choose from since even a good rank two or one will be generally more useful.

  • Cu Chulainn (Caster)
  • Darius III
  • Diarmuid ua Duibhne
  • Mephistopheles
  • Boudica

E Tier

Scraping the bottom of the barrel, these might work someday, somehow.

  • Gilles de Rais
  • Gilles de Rais (Caster)
  • Geronimo
  • Henry Jekyll & Hyde

Additional FAQ

Who is the best character in FGO?

There are currently three Servants vying for the top spot as the best in the game:

• Merlin: Has some of the most potent buffs, specializes in boosting Busters, a clade already focused on one-shotting opponents.

• Skathach-Skadi: Spawning a strategy all around herself, a pair of Skadis utilize their enormous NP boosts and crit modifiers to support a single Quick attacker and carry the game.

• Zhuge Liang (El-Melloi II): One of the best all-around characters due to a diverse buffing skillset that scales well the longer fights go on.

How do I get a 5 Star in Fate Grand Order?

Since FGO uses a gacha system to roll Servants from the pool of all available options, five-star characters have a minuscule chance of appearing with each roll. You can never get a five-star Servant from the 10 summons provided by the tutorial but are guaranteed a four-rank one.

You can prioritize rolling during time-limited events. These events are more likely to contain a more extensive range of four- and five-star Servants, slightly improving your odds of getting a higher-rank character. Clearing event missions can also give you a higher-power Servant you can use to progress in the game.

Do I need a 5 star character to finish the game?

Since the game doesn’t have any sort of PvP system built, there’s very little point in advancing the rarest characters if you can manage to win with lower-rank ones consistently. The campaign is designed to need very few if any, four-star Servants. Still, they greatly expedite fights by finishing up quickly and dealing damage without the opportunity for the opponent to take their turn.

Get the Best in Fate Grand Order

The best Servants in FGO are often event- or time-limited, so make sure to check back on the game often and participate in events and missions to get the best chances of filling out your Servant roster. With more Servants always on the way, the tier list can change drastically with each new release.
