How To Fix Error Code PILUM

Error code PILUM is an error CoD Modern Warfare and Warzone players may report seeing when they download additional content packs. The game doesn’t recognize the packs and shows this error as a result. Most cases occur on Xbox, and may make it somewhat confusing to address.

How To Fix Error Code PILUM

Fortunately, the gaming community tends to figure out solutions quickly. You can try several fixes and see if the problem goes away. Read on for all the details.

How to Fix Error Code PILUM in CoD

When you download the game and attempt to launch it, you might be told the system is lacking a few content packs. This is a regular occurrence. What isn’t normal is trying to get them and then receiving an error message.

The strange thing is that error code PILUM isn’t included in Activision’s list of known issues. The packs are causing the problem, and now you must resolve it.

There are three possible reasons for error code PILUM to occur.

  • A glitch in the console
  • Inconsistent network information
  • Corrupted console caches and data

Since these are addressable, you only have to try some of these fixes. None of them are guaranteed to clear the error. However, community members have found them to be helpful.

Restart Your Xbox

Sometimes restarting your Xbox all there is to fixing error code PILUM and potentially other glitches. Press the Xbox button and select the restart option. After your console reboots, try again and see if the code still appears.

Should the answer be yes, consider using the other tricks below.

Manually Install the Multiplayer Pack

When you play CoD Modern Warfare, you need to download the multiplayer pack to play with other players. It might be corrupted and will need to be replaced with functional files.

  1. Uninstall any content you have related to Modern Warfare.
  2. Go to the Settings menu.
  3. Select “Network Settings” under “General.”
  4. In “Set Up Wireless Network,” pick “Go Offline.”
  5. Switch to your PC and download the multiplayer pack from the Microsoft Store using the same Microsoft account your Xbox uses.
  6. Return to your Xbox and go back online.
  7. Head to the Microsoft Store and download the multiplayer pack on Xbox.
  8. Try and rerun the game.

This fix has helped many people regain complete functionality. It should remove all vestiges of corrupted game data.

Install All Packs

Another solution is managing your Modern Warfare add-ons and ensuring the console installs them correctly. When done right, the error code will disappear. You can then play Modern Warfare normally.

  1. Boot up your Xbox console.
  2. Highlight Modern Warfare to bring up some options.
  3. Move to and select “Manage Game And Add-ons.”
  4. Select all the data packs you want, including the Multiplayer & Special Ops Pack.
  5. Save your changes and let everything install without interference.

Once all the packs are installed, error code PILUM shouldn’t show up anymore.

Delete Any Partially-Downloaded Content

Since the error prevents the console from installing the packs correctly, you can delete them from the system first and download them again. Here are the steps.

  1. Press the Guide button on your Xbox controller.
  2. Go to the “Settings” menu.
  3. Select “System” and “Storage.”
  4. Press X to bring up what the console suggests users delete.
  5. Scroll down and look for any content that has a yellow exclamation mark.
  6. Delete the content.

Here, you’ll be downloading the packs again.

  1. Head to “Account” this time.
  2. Pick “Payment & billing.”
  3. Select “Order History”.
  4. Choose the pack you couldn’t download before.
  5. Download the content again.

With a new download, the error shouldn’t be triggered anymore. This solution is relatively helpful but may not work all the time.

Download the Multiplayer Pack Using a Different Method

This alternative method may be the key to fixing the error. You’re using the Microsoft Store for this process.

  1. Go to the Microsoft Store on your Xbox.
  2. Look for the Multiplayer Pack.
  3. Look for the listing that has the game’s cover art.
  4. Select the option to install it.
  5. Accept and install the multiplayer pack.
  6. Try and play CoD Modern Warfare.

There’s not much in this process except for waiting. That’s why it’s so simple to fix error code PILUM.

Clear the MAC Address

To address any inconsistent net data, try clearing the MAC address. It’s known to help resolve error code PILUM.

  1. Press the Guide button.
  2. Go to the “Settings” menu.
  3. Select “Network Settings.”
  4. Tap on “Advanced Settings” and “Alternate MAC Address.”
  5. Clear your current MAC address.
  6. Restart your Xbox console.
  7. See if error code PILUM still appears.

Doing so tends to make your network data consistent again. That way, there’s a lower margin of error.

Factory Reset the Xbox Series X/S

Factory resetting should be the last resort when none of the solutions above are working. Back your files up before attempting a full factory reset. That way, you can get your progress back after reinstalling everything.

  1. Press the Xbox button on your controller.
  2. Go to “Profile & System.”
  3. Under “System,” select “Console Info.”
  4. Pick “Reset Console.”
  5. Choose to keep your games and apps.
  6. Proceed with the factory reset.

If the factory reset doesn’t work, you may have to perform another one and remove all data. Doing so will clean your console but may also remove the error code PILUM.

Fixing the Error in Warzone is the Same

All the solutions above will work for Warzone because the two titles are part of the same game. As such, try each solution until you succeed.

Hopefully, Activision will address this error and remove it from the game’s files. Getting everything working can be challenging, especially when factory resets are involved.

Are You On?

Downloading a game only to receive an error message without official developer support is frustrating. There are not many things players can do besides these solutions. Until Activision works on the code, this error may appear from time to time.
