Hauppauge’s USB TV tuner brings digital TV reception to your PC or laptop. No delicate aerial adapter is required, and aerial leads plug directly into the end, making for a robust connection. But performance was unimpressive. The mini-aerial struggled in all but the most perfect of conditions, and even a rooftop aerial picked up fewer channels than our reference PCI Express and USB TV tuners. Meanwhile, Hauppauge’s WinTV 7 software is a definite improvement on previous versions, but its ropey EPG and sluggish interface lag behind Microsoft’s Media Center. It’s relatively inexpensive, but it isn’t especially cheerful.
