How to Create Shorts From YouTube Video: AI-Powered Step-by-Step Guide
Reap allows you to create YouTube shorts from existing video on PC and mobile. The tool performs best with talking videos like interviews and speeches. Here’s how to create YouTube Shorts from one of these videos.
The first thing you must do is create a reap account. The home page might tempt you to start straight away, but clicking the “Generate” button will only take you to the “Sign up” page. So, let’s start off the right way.
Step 1: Go to reap.video.

Step 2: Click on the “Get started” button in the top-right corner.

Step 3: Sign up for an account. You can use your existing Google account or fill in your information and click on “Continue.”

You don’t have to pay anything for now. The free plan offers you 60 minutes of processing time each month. If you need more, you can upgrade to the “Creator” or “Studio” plan.

Once you have your reap account, it’s time to start creating YouTube Shorts.
Step 1: Click on the “Create Project” button.

Step 2: Select the “Create Clips” option.

Step 3: Go to YouTube to fetch the link to your video.

If the video isn’t published, you can use the upload option.
Step 4: Paste the link to your YouTube video.

Step 5: Click on “Get Clips.”

Step 6: Wait for your video to upload to reap.

If you’re in a hurry, you can press the “Get Clips” button again straight away. However, you can also tweak a few settings to have more control over the output. Here’s what you can do.
Step 1: Choose the genre of your video. In this case, we’re using an interview as an example. So, the genre will be “Talking.”

Step 2: Select the language of your video from the dropdown menu. If you’re creating YouTube Shorts for a foreign audience, you can also translate the captions to the video.

Step 3: Choose the orientation for your video. YouTube Shorts are in a vertical orientation with a 9:16 aspect ratio, so you should choose the “Portrait” option.

Step 4: Select the resolution for your video. The 1080-pixel resolution is the better option for YouTube shorts. However, it’s only available with a premium account.

Step 5: Choose how your captions should look like. If you don’t want captions, you’ll have to upgrade your account to remove them.

If you don’t like any of the default presets, click on More Presets to see additional options.

Choose your favorite and hit the “Select Preset” button.
Step 6: Choose how long your clips will be. YouTube shorts can be up to three minutes long, so any option will work.

Step 7: Optionally, enter specific topics the clips should focus on.

Step 8: Scroll up and click on “Get Clips.”

Reap will instantly get down to work. In the upper-right corner, you’ll see how long it will take to create your clips.

Once they’re done, you’ll receive an email.

The clips will be sorted by how likely they are to go viral online. Each video will receive a Virality Score out of 10, alongside an explanation.

You’ll even get an AI-generated caption you can use when posting your YouTube Short.

If you aren’t satisfied with a clip, you can click on the “Edit” button below it.

This leads to an editing studio where you can mainly change the captions and improve the cropping.

After making your edits, click on the “Save changes” button in the top-right corner. Now, you can save your video by clicking on “Download” below it.
