Huawei P9 – Device Keeps Restarting – What to Do?
Continuous restarts may raise a red flag and make you think that there’s something seriously wrong with your Huawei P9. However, it’s rarely something you should stress about.
There are a few software issues that can put your phone into a restart loop. Luckily, you should be able to deal with them even if you are not tech-savvy. The following guide gives you detailed instructions on how to fix this frustrating problem.
Force Restart Your Phone
Admittedly, this fix might not sound logical because your phone is already restarting. Nevertheless, it’s known to help on occasion.
1. Turn Off Your Phone
Hold the Power button and choose the Power Off option that appears on the screen, then hit OK to confirm.
2. Wait for a While
Press the Power button after a few seconds and turn on your smartphone.
A force restart should remove minor software bugs and glitches that might be causing the restarts. It also clears some temporary files from your P9, thus allowing it to run smoother.
Wipe Cache Partition
A force restart might not be able to deal with all cached files that are piled up on your Huawei P9. This is why you should go into recovery mode and wipe the cache partition.
1. Press the Power Button
Select the Power Off option which appears on the screen and tap Power Off again.
2. Press Volume Up and Power Buttons
Hold the buttons until you see the Huawei logo, then release them. Your phone is now in recovery mode.
3. Select Wipe Cache Partition
Use Volume rockers to navigate down to Wipe Cache Partition and select it by pressing the Power button.
4. Reboot System Now
Wiping the cache partition is usually done in a few seconds. After it’s done, you will be taken back to the Recovery menu. Select Reboot System Now and press the Power button to initiate the reboot.
Update Your Phone
Outdated software is one of the major culprits that put your Huawei P9 into a restart loop. In addition, it is advisable to always keep an eye out for newly released updates to avoid the irritating restarts.
1. Go to Settings
Tap on the Settings app and scroll down to Update.
2. Select Check for Updates
Hit the Check for Updates button and wait until your phone finds the latest available software version.
3. Tap New Version
Select Install Now when you enter the New Version menu and follow the onscreen instructions.
Besides the Android software, your apps might also need updating. It just takes a few steps and a few minutes, so don’t forget to regularly update your apps – it might prevent your Huawei P9 from constantly restarting.
1. Go to Google Play Store
Once you enter the app, hit Menu (the hamburger icon).
2. Select My Apps & Games
There is an Update label next to every app that needs one.
3. Hit Update All
If the methods we’ve listed in this write-up don’t help, you might need to do a hard reset. It takes your phone back to factory settings, but it’s one of the surest ways to get rid of constant restarts. However, a hard reset also wipes all the data from your phone, so make sure to back it up before you do it.
