How To Hard Factory Reset the iPhone XR

Performing a factory reset is one of the best software repair tools you have at your disposal.

How To Hard Factory Reset the iPhone XR

Going through a factory reset can help if you’ve stopped receiving calls. It can also enable you to fix malfunctions caused by a virus or a buggy app. You should also use this approach if you’re having difficulties with your GPS or the camera.

Performing a factory reset can help if you’ve forgotten your password and can’t use your phone. It’s possible to go through with it even if you can’t get your smartphone to switch on.

However, there are precautions that you should take before you decide on this kind of reset.

Before You Start a Factory Reset on Your iPhone XR

A factory reset will irretrievably delete all of your files, your apps, your contacts, your preferences. So before you go through with it, you want to make sure that your files are safely stored on an external device.

The best way to perform this kind of backup is to use iTunes on your computer. Connect your phone and your computer with a USB cable and then copy all your files to your hard drive.

It’s also a good idea to try some less risky ways to reboot your phone. For example, you can do a forced restart.

  1. Briefly Press the Volume Up Button
  2. Briefly Press the Volume Down Button
  3. Press the Side Button and Hold

This doesn’t alter your data but it can get rid of minor software errors. If your phone is glitching, it also helps to delete your most recently installed app because it might be impacting your phone’s general performance.

But if none of these measures worked, you can start your factory reset.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Performing a Factory Reset Through the Settings

If your phone is responsive, go for this solution. It’s the easiest way to complete this reset.

  1. Go into Settings
  2. Select General
  3. Tap on Reset
  4. Select “Erase All Content and Settings”
  5. Enter Your Passcode
  6. Confirm to Proceed

Performing a Factory Reset with iTunes

You can also reset the iPhone XR from your computer even if it’s unresponsive. Simply follow these steps:

1. Connect the Phone with Your Computer

For Mac users, iTunes is a native app. PC users should start with downloading it from the Microsoft store. The iTunes app is free and it’s simple to install. You need the newest version to complete the factory reset, so it might be necessary to perform an upgrade.

2. Hold the Volume Down Button and the Power Button at the Same Time

3. Keep Holding Them Down for a Long Time

When the Apple logo appears, keep holding the buttons. Don’t let go until you see the iTunes logo and an image of your USB cable.

4. On Your Computer, Agree to Restore Your Software

5. Agree to the Software Update

The process takes a while. When you’re done, you can use iTunes to restore all the data that you saved previously.

A Final Thought

When you complete a factory reset, your phone will go back to the way it was when you first bought it. All traces of your personal history will disappear from it. Hence, it’s a good idea to perform a reset if you’ve decided to sell or give away your phone.

I am also stuck at this very same step. have held down both volume down and onoff button until my fingers went number. over five minutes… nothing “Slide to Power off” stayed on along with SOS Emergency SOS. There has got to be a better solution out there.
