If your wireless network isn’t working quite as it should, it’s possible that interference from other nearby sources might be causing the problem. Other 802.11b/g networks, cordless phones and microwaves can all cause your signal to drop out unpredictably. Until now, fixing the problem required a good deal of trial and error, but the Wi-Spy is a tiny USB dongle with an accompanying software application that provides a graphical representation of the 2.4GHz frequency and shows you which wireless channels are busy, allowing you to pick the quietest one for your network. You can also record wireless activity in your area, which is useful for all sorts of troubleshooting jobs. The Wi-Spy is particularly cheap for a spectrum analyser and is a great tool for diagnosing wireless problems.
