“I’m still waiting for my job at Spotify.”

These words, reportedly uttered by outgoing president Barack Obama this week, while chatting to a former Swedish ambassador, probably wouldn’t carry much clout if they came from you or I. But it looks like the music-streaming company has found room at the company for someone who may just match Obama’s skills and experience.
The President of Playlists job requires the successful applicant to “provide world-class leadership” to the company’s playlist editors and supporting staff. Playlist ideas are a big part of the role, with the ad suggesting ideas from “a playlist for shooting hoops with your friends, to the perfect warm-up playlist for addressing the nation about health-care legislation that bears your name”.
The successful applicant will also “analyse data and performance of playlists in a clear and transparent manner using all available intelligence,” while making sure they “attend daily briefings” – something that rules out the outgoing president’s successor.
If you’re reading this and still believe that this is a real job you stand a chance of getting, the section on experience will almost certainly rule you out. Under a segment labelled “Who you are”, the ad demands you have “at least eight years experience running a highly-regarded nation”. That narrows down the list of candidates considerably, but Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Angela Merkel must still fancy their chances.
They’re still in with a decent shout until the last point, which reads: “Someone with good team spirit, excellent work ethic, a friendly and warm attitude, and a Nobel Peace Prize.”
Oh. Congratulations, Barack.
Still, if Obama doesn’t fancy the (fictional) job, you can (waste your time and) apply here.
