How To View Saved Wi-Fi Passwords on an iPhone
Historically, Apple has made it impossible to find saved Wi-Fi passwords on your iPhone. This was to maintain a high level of security for your phone and whatever Wi-Fi network you were using. However, as your phone’s security has improved, allowing users to access their saved Wi-Fi passwords on their iPhones has become safer.
This process will be much more straightforward when Apple releases its yearly update in September 2022. However, a few possible solutions exist for viewing a saved Wi-Fi password on iPhone.
To find out how, read the article below.
Can You View Saved Wi-fi Passwords on an iPhone Without Jailbreaking Your Device?
Until iOS 16 is released in September 2022, you only have one possible solution for viewing saved Wi-Fi passwords on your iPhone without a jailbreak.
Keychain is Apple’s built-in password manager, which will automatically save your passwords as you enter them into Safari or other apps. This includes your Wi-Fi passwords as well. Many users have reported mixed results with Keychain storing Wi-Fi passwords, so don’t be surprised if this solution fails you.
Keychain needs to have been turned on when you first entered the Wi-Fi password to be able to recover them. It will not store passwords retroactively even if you use the Wi-Fi daily. To find your Wi-Fi password in Keychain, follow the instructions below.
- Go to your Settings app.
- Tap on “Passwords & Accounts.”
- Select “Website & App Passwords.”
- The screen will display all available passwords.
- Find the Wi-Fi network you need to access and tap on the name. You will need to input your passcode, FaceID, or Touch ID.
- The password will appear.
This is currently the only option to view a Wi-Fi password on your iPhone without the new iOS 16 update. If you didn’t have Keychain turned on or rejected the save when you first input the password, you will not be able to use this method.
How To View Saved Wi-Fi Passwords on an iPhone with iOS 16
iOS 16 will be the first significant system upgrade on iPhone to allow you to view saved Wi-Fi passwords. It is currently scheduled to be officially released in September 2022. However, the free public beta is now available for download.
If you have iOS 16 on your iPhone, you can follow these instructions to view saved Wi-Fi passwords.
- Open the Settings app and go to Wi-Fi.
- Locate the Wi-Fi network with the saved password you want.
- Tap the blue information icon next to the Wi-Fi network’s name.
- Tap on “Password.” You will be asked to input FaceID, Touch ID, or your passcode. The password should become visible.
- Click on “Copy” to temporarily save the password to your clipboard.
You should only copy and paste a password if entering it somewhere else. For example, saving a Wi-Fi password in a Notes app is insecure.
Maintain Your Connection
Viewing your saved Wi-Fi passwords on your iPhone will soon be a straightforward process. In the meantime, a couple of workarounds might get you the desired information.
